Maria Montessori becomes one of the first women to obtain a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Rome. Represents Italy at the International Women’s Congress in Berlin; delivers address on rights of working women, including equal pay for equal work. Studies the writings of French doctors Itard and Séguin, who worked with disabled children.
Maria Montessori opened the first Montessori school in Rome on January 6, 1907. Subsequently, she traveled the world and wrote extensively about her approach to education, attracting many devotees. There are now more than 22,000 Montessori schools in at least 110 countries worldwide.
In the United States, the first Montessori school opened in 1911 in Scarborough, New York, and others followed in rapid succession. Prominent figures, including Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell, lent their support, and popular journals galvanized the public with articles on the “miracle children” who emerged from Montessori schools. In 1916, more than 100 Montessori schools were operating in 22 states.
Working with children is my passion. I’m certified by the America Montessori Society. Studied at CME at the College of New Rochelle in NY. After working as a Montessori Teacher for 12 years, I decided it was time to pursue my dream of having my own Montessori School.
